This website was originally designed to sit on a modified Amstrad PPC640 as an homage to the 1990s web, or more specifically the amazing site that was Geocities so expect a lot of horrible colours, tiny images & annoying GIFs.
That changed one night when I wondered if PPC640.co.uk was available. It was so this website was born. It is also mirrored on the actual PPC640 so you can see some more pages that use data that is only available from that machine only.
The Rules
- Keep the feeling of the 90s web alive by using 90s web ideas. Web 1.0, the "Static Web"
- HTML 3.2 is to be used.
- No CSS
- TABLES & FRAMES are a cool design element!
- PHP8 & MySQL to be used even if this is a bit anachronistic for the period as I don't want to revisit PERL & cgi-bin!
- Design using Notepad (actually Notepad++) and Macromedia Dreamweaver keeping with the era.
- Graphics designed with Paint Shop Pro 6 (something I still use to this day for some graphic work) & Macromedia Fireworks.
- FileZilla is used for uploading the website. It would have been WS_FTP but now that seems to be a paid only product today but not when this website's design is set!
